Vaclav Smil ist ein echter Wissenschafter, der (leider?) Illusionen über die künftige Verfügbarkeit von fossilen Brennstoffen (bzw. deren Nettoenergie) hat.

Smil hat ausgiebig vergangene Energy Transitions studiert und er hat auch einiges zum anstehenden Energie-Übergang zu sagen, der zum ersten Mal in der Weltgeschichte von dichteren zu weniger dichten “Energieträgern” erfolgen soll.

We have 37 billion tons of co2 busted up into the atmosphere every year. In terms of primary energy it’s more than 17 terawatts of energy. Last transition from wood to coal it was less than 1 billion tons of wood to replace. Now  it’s 10 billion tons of carbon ( = 37 bn tons of co2) to replace.” (ab 11:59)
