Wer nur die Mainstream-Journaille mit ihren Beschwichtel-Experten verfolgt, könnte meinen, es wäre um die Öl- und Gasversorgung Westeuropas gut bestellt – doch nichts könnte weniger wahr sein. In einem regelrechten  “Kugelhagel” aus Etikettenschwindeleien, Halbwahrheiten und De facto-Fake News wird der traurige Status Quo mit vereinten Kräften beschönigt. Die offen auf dem Tisch liegende Realität sieht etwa so aus:  Der – mit Ausnahme Russlands – einzige größere Gas-Produzent Europas, Norwegen, kann den Ausfall der Russischen Föderation nicht einmal ansatzweise kompensieren und der einzige LNG-Anbieter, der 2022 seinen europäischen Absatz (in m3) nennenswert gesteigert hat, sind die USA (zum dreifachen Preis des Pipeline-Gases). Dieser Blogger, der vor 40 Jahren Germanistik studiert hat, kann sich erinnern, dass ein damals populärer, junger Dozent mit einem hippen Doppelnamen geschätzt die Hälfte seiner Lehrveranstaltungen mit dem Großthema “die Krise des Erzählers” bestritten hat. Umso interessierter hörte er hin, als der österreichische (Quasi-)Staatssender am Freitag über die “Krise der Narration” lesen ließ. Was der schon lange verstorbene Wendelin 40 Jahre nach Walter Benjamin für die schreibende Zunft konstatierte, scheint mittlerweile die Stinos der Generation Z erreicht zu haben. [Read more...]

Es gibt Leute, die ohne lang’ zu prüfen, müde abwinken, wenn irgendwo von Peak Oil die Rede ist – schließlich steht überall, dass es weltweit Billionen Barrel an proved reserves gebe und Matt Simmons, der Autor von Twilight in the Desert ist auch schon 13 Jahre tot – während die Saudis noch immer pumpen. Steve St. Angelo gehört nicht zu diesem Schlag. Der US-Blogger, der früher ein konventioneller Edelmetall-Fan war, ist heute ein – leider weitgehend erfolgloser – Mythenjäger, dem nicht geglaubt wird. Intellektuelle & Politicos, “die an die Energie-Zahnfee glauben”, haben es ihm besonders angetan.

Dieser Blogger, der hier gewissermaßen auch “den Hut” eines Miniatur-Herausgebers auf hat, stimmt der Beurteilung des Vorgehens der IDF in Gaza durch einen Gastautor zum Teil zu, zum Teil nicht. Während die Verdachtslage auf  Völkermord laut UN-Konvention von 1948 nicht unbedingt schlagend erscheint, würde dieser juristische Laie das miliärische/staatliche Handeln Israels eher der Vertreibung im Römischen Statut (“displacement”) zuordnen. Über deren Motive kann man ggf. nur spekulieren (sofern einem die offiziellen “Militäroperationen gegen die Hamas” nicht reichen). [Read more...]

Der Brent-Preis soll in den vergangenen Tagen “signifikant gestiegen” sein und die erste Frage ist hier natürlich, was unter “signifikant” verstanden wird.  Ist eine Erhöhung von 78 auf 79 Dollar “signifikant”?  Oder wenigstens eine von 76? Und was haben die Piraten vor Somalia damit zu tun? Wie relevant ist Öl vom Golf überhaupt für Europa und welchen Einfluss haben eigenhändige Selbstmord-Sanktionen sowie Tanker-Kaperanten im Roten Meer auf den Derivativpreis von Brent?
